Name: Heidi
Occupation: Currently I’m a stay at home mom and artist. However, I’ve been many things throughout my life, from a florist to helping those with disabilities. I can honestly say I’ve had the pleasure of having many jobs that I actually enjoyed, even if they were short lived.
Passionate about and why? I am passionate about art, of all kinds – which includes food. Food is what gets me through life, but art in itself is such a necessity to my existence. i at times don’t feel at ease until I’ve been able to express myself through art of some kind. Also fashion, specifically fashion found in cinema. I view all of my clothes as costumes, which I use to put myself into different movie characters’ shoes.
Any special activities or hobbies? Whenever I can, I like to roll out my yoga mat. Other than that, I would consider sewing a hobby, since I’m not good enough to call it a skill. Also I LOVE creating floral arrangements, taking inspiration from traditional ikebana.
Do you have a mentor? I just recently have been introduced to a sculptor at my family’s church, who has taken me under her wing. Another very extraordinary woman in our community, named Lauren – a mother herself, and a magnificent ceramicist, with great taste in jewelry.
Who is a female that you admire and why? Mae West. First of all, we’re both Leos, secondly, she knew what she wanted and did what she wanted, all while having a sense of humor. She was a risk taker as a writer and actress, not caring what others thought about her rebellious nature.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? Either “My Autumn’s Done Come” by Lee Hazelwood or “I’m Gonna Move Right In” by The Velvet Underground.
Do you have a favorite artist?…author? My all time favorite artist is Allison Schulnik – I feel like her paintings could be edible…
How do you see yourself at 40? …at 70? At 40, thriving completely from my art and being involved more in my community, all while being a supportive mother to my beautiful son. At 70, I’m hoping to have a family business to leave behind, which would also have funded the different humanitarian projects, I have on my back burners.
What do you love most about yourself? My positive outlook, in spite of all my failed attempts through life. Also my ability to think for myself, which I think has been lost in a world of so much information and misinformation.
